Jesus is the thirst quencher.

In John 7 the people have just concluded seven days of feasting. They had gathered in Jerusalem with their families to celebrate the “Festival of Booths.” Each family built a temporary shelter using palm branches, leafy trees, and willows in order to remember the Exodus (Leviticus 23:33-43). I can imagine that after seven days of camping parents are weary of the daily task of competing for available water. I am sure they have heard the cry, “I’m thirsty!” or, “When are we going to go home?” one too many times. These complaints must have been eerily reminiscent of Israel’s past (Exodus 15:24; 17:1-7). And yet, now as then, the Lord responds to their cry. John records, “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.’”

Are you thirsty? Jesus still satisfies.

You can be a thirst quencher too.

Out of you can flow a steady stream of living water. Jesus says, "He who believes in Me from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.” Picture this: a refreshing stream of cool, crystal clear water cascading from your life, blessing those with whom you come in contact—at home, work, or in the community. It is part of God’s plan—not only for you personally, but for us corporately. When we walk in step with the Holy Spirit, we will be a blessing to our neighbor, community, and the peoples of the world.

Thirst Quencher Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You have provided me everything I need for life and godliness. And, yet I must confess that I often thirst and crave for things that do not satisfy. Lately, I have spent more time pursuing ________________________ than you. I acknowledge this as idolatry and spiritual adultery.

Lord, I come to you today that I might know the life-giving power of your Spirit within me. Renew my thoughts and attitudes. Restore me in the image of Christ. Fill me with your Spirit so that I will be a blessing to my family, neighbor and community.

In Jesus name and for His glory, Amen.

For HIS Glory,
Pastor Tom
